Since the 1960s I have made many visits to South Africa, living there for extended periods.
I don’t know what draws me back – I’m of South African stock, my grandfather was killed in Europe in WW1. it’s true to say, I have been fascinated with the country’s struggles against the evils of apartheid – and since the first democratic elections, with how its people are coming to terms with the new rainbow state.
A lot of my documentary work in South Africa has been in the township of Soweto. A subsequent book has been published of my photography taken there titled: Soweto Street Stories.
The work I have taken in South Africa over the years, forms the basis of my fine art, limited edition prints.
