  • 19th Century Watercolour of British Explorer and Writer: Henry Danby-Seymour in Caucasus National Dress - Dated 1847

A rare image in watercolour form of Victorian gentleman, explorer, writer, politician, Henry Danby Seymour (1820-1877) 

painted in Caucasus (probably Georgian) national dress during his travels through the Caucusus in 1847. The only known image of Danby-Seymour in public hands (a carte de visite) is held in the National Portrait Gallery, London taken by J. Seib.

This watercolour is painted by "JS" almost certainly the same J. Seib who took the cdv. He added numerous hand written notes on the front and back. Framed in the original maple frame in fair order. This watercolour has significant historical interest, Seymour was a descendant of the prominent Seymour family of Great Britain.
