Royal Navy Painted Ship's Signs Rare Royal Navy Painted Ship's Signs (unregulated period) early-mid 19th C. RECENTLY SOLD Rare Royal Navy Painted Ship's Signs (unregulated period) early-mid 19th C. The signs were made during a period in Royal Navy history when ship's signs were unregulated and often commissioned by the ship's captain. The design however has many of the features of the post 1918 regulated signs adopted by the Royal Navy; the rope surround, crown, illustration relating to the ship's name etc. Made of cast metal, the painted inner almost certainly brass. Original Paint. Dimensions: each about 5+ inches (14cm) at their widest. These are rare survivors in remarkable good condition for their age and history. I am happy to ship overseas. Enquiries welcome.
