  • Antique Pair of French Butchers Advertising Chalkware Pigs - Circa 1920s

For sale here is a magnificent pair of painted chalkware French Butchers Window Display Models. French Advertising Shop Display.
 
They were once used as window display models in a French butcher's shop. The pigs were cast from chalkware and have been hand-painted and decorated. They are rare pieces of early advertising dating to around the 1920s.
 
The pigs has been "dressed" as butchers and wear a bow-tie, kerchief and aprons. Their faces are full of expression and finished in great detail. The colours are still good and strong. 
 
Material: Chalkware, Paint
 
Dimensions: Larger: 25" tall x 9" wide x 9" depth (64 x 23 x 22cm)   -  Smaller 21" tall x 12" wide x 8"depth  (55 x 30 x 21cm)
 
Condition: Both pigs are in very good condition overall, commensurate with their age and usage. There is some repair work on an ear on the smaller one, and there are some signs of age and wear including flakes to areas of the paint and plaster in places especially on "extremities" such as tips of ears, hands. The bases are a little worn on the corners. (please see photos)
 
These are rare survivors - especially coming as a pair that look so good together.
