Blue Ensign Flag of The Little Ship Club SOLD

1936 the Little Ship Club (founded in 1926) was training members of the Royal Navy Supplementary Volunteer Reserve Force and as a result the then First Sea Lord invited the club to apply for a “defaced” Blue Ensign warrant (a Navy Blue Ensign added with the Club’s emblem). This is only one of a few examples of such permission granted to sailing club.

The flag is made of linen (or linen/cotton/polyester blend - i'm no expert) with sewn in Union Flag. It is further embroidered with the Club’s laurel leaf and white triangle sail logo. On its heading edge is sewn “Regd. Design No. 327084" and underneath "Little Ship Club” There is also a faint stamp mark “YD” presumably for: 1 Yard. It has its toggle and some rope.

Condition: The flag is in excellent condition, with still strong colours, no tears, moth holes or the like. It heading edge is slightly dirty but no permanent stains or marks. I would describe it’s condition - as good to excellent. Please see photos.

Little Ship Club was founded in London in 1926. Apart from it pre-war training programme its members took part in the evacuation of British troops from Dunkirk in WW2. Former Club’s Presidents include Sir Robin Knox-Johnston. The club operates today from Bell Wharf on the River Thames within the City of London.

Dimensions: 37” long - 17” wide (94 x 43cm). It is a perfect size to frame.
