A fine watercolour painting
A fine marine watercolour painting by the celebrated British Marine artist M. E. Adams showing a busy harbour entrance with onlookers on the wooden pier. It is signed and dated M.E. Adams 1901 in the bottom right hand corner.
The watercolour is in good overall condition, still bright and good colours, with very little sign of foxing or discolouring. It is wonderfully detailed and captures the subject matter with great accuracy yet with a looseness of painting style that has captured the movement of the ships, the swell of the sea, the spray, and the excitement of the onlookers - it's almost that you can feel the sea spray and smell the salt in the breeze!
The painting is mounted in an excellent gilded frame, almost certainly its original. The frame is in good condition throughout.
