Chris Kirby is an award winning photographer, artist and writer. He works from his studio in North Norfolk.
"I was born in Ealing, London and was admitted to Kingston College of Art and Design, later obtaining a diploma in journalism from the British College of Journalism. A somewhat colourful career path followed, which included being: an airline executive, director of a stock-exchange listed plc, a hot-air balloon manufacturer... and a sheep farmer in Wales!
I later became a documentary photographer working in the UK, Europe and especially Africa. My photography has subsequently been published extensively and exhibited in the UK, Europe and the USA - most recently at the Klompching Gallery in New York and in London at Somerset House and the Mall Gallery.
I have long maintained an interest in art, illustration and writing. My paintings have been sold and exhibited within the UK, and my writings have included articles and poetry. I also have a passion for objets d'art, some of which I photograph and paint; others I collect or sell.
Recently, I have attempted to combine photography with artwork embellishment in an attempt to redefine ways of presenting documentary photography. This has met with some acclaim, especially my series: We gave you forgiveness (you kept the Krugerrands) about the current socio/political situation in South Africa."
Studio open by appointment; enquiries welcome for commissions and assignments.
