An exhibition of paintings by Chris Kirby celebrating the traditional wooden working boats of Norfolk and Suffolk.
Quote by the artist: "Along the windswept beaches of Norfolk and Suffolk, the sight of wooden working boats once defined the rhythm of coastal life. These small, sturdy vessels—each shaped by generations of local knowledge—were the lifeblood of inshore fishing communities, bringing in catches of crab, whelks, cockles, and lobster from the North Sea’s shallows. My paintings attempt to capture the nostalgia of that time, and the beautiful shapes and form of these wooden, locally crafted boats - in a contemporary, modernistic manner".
The Exhibition starts on Saturday 24th May, and ends 8th June. Times: open daily 10.00 - 17.00. My paintings are available for sale.
Location: The Studio, Mill Farm House, Hindringham, NR21 0PT - it will be well signposted..

It's time to reflect on the year past and to think over the many variables that go into making, promoting and selling one's own artwork. One decision made for the New Year due to such a positive response is to keep painting old working boats which I simply love doing. I live close to the North Norfolk coast where fisherman still launch their small boats off the local beaches for crab, lobster etc. I'm a member of Rescue Wooden Boats based in Stiffkey, just up the road from me,

I'm pleased to announce that the newly opened Allen Hall Gallery in Glandford (near Holt) in Norfolk has taken two pieces of my artwork for showing and sale. Karen Hall and talented artist Guy Allen expressed their liking for my work, which of course is alway pleasing! I hope it's the beginning of a long and successful relationship. www.allenhallgallery.com

Framing my own work!

It's been something i've long wanted to do - frame my own artwork. Adopting the "floating frame" format sometimes known as the Ben Nicholson frame or St. Ives frame - the frame design shows off my artwork to great effect.
